Providence, Grim or Merry, Depending Upon Your Stance

Tonight we had our raffle drawing as part of the parish's newly established Octoberfest.  (Please don't comment upon the fact that it is taking part in November - that is a whole different issue.)  Anyway, as the good pastor that I am, decided to donate a dinner for 8.  These are the infamous wine-soaked, home cooked, baccanals that are swiftly becoming legend around the state.

As I was standing in the hall, listening to names being called off, I thought/prayed, "Please let someone fun win the dinner."  Then the name was called.

One of my friends from Shawnee was up for Mass this evening and bought a raffle ticket right before the evening's festivities.  He won the dinner.  This is going to be classic.  Of course, when he reads this, he'll have to decide whether or not he wants to redeem the prize.  An evening with me might be more than 8 people can bear.

This is one of the reasons why I'm glad I converted to Catholicism. Presbyterians don't have raffles, and if they did, they would not include "wine-soaked, home cooked, baccanals" hosted by the pastor.

I feel SO at home now, LOL!

Providence. Amazing what happens when you buy tickets for beer. Should be a good time.

Wherever the Catholic sun doth shine,
There’s always laughter and good red wine.
At least I’ve always found it so.
Benedicamus Domino!

What would you have done if the parish grump (every parish has 4 or 5) had won?
